Over the past few weeks we have been catching more and more bruiser Redfish over 30 inches. This is a thrill for any angler as we are targeting these fish in 2 to 3 feet of water. Clients have recently boated many Reds over 10 pounds with the 2 largest for August being a 13 and 15 pound fish. These are tough fish and they are eagerly taking both live bait and artificial lures. The Trout bite is still going strong as these fish start to fatten up for the cooler months. Look for aggressive strikes on shrimp, minnows and soft plastic baits thrown on Jigs near current breaks and oyster beds. We have had many days of putting over 30 Trout in the boat of all sizes, the August best was 4 pounds!
Flounder have inched closer to the creek mouths as they prepare to inhale any unsuspecting bait that comes their way. I have been using a minnow or small mullet rigged on a split shot to get in front of the fish and make a natural presentation. The Flounder hit lightly and more than one client this month thought they were snagged on bottom, but as they tried to pull free they realized they were hooked up with a nice fish, that’s a good thing! As the daylight hours shorten and weather slowly begins to change the fishing here is about to explode into a virtual feeding frenzy.
