My latest fishing charters out of Charleston, Folly Beach and Isle of Palms have plenty to be happy about. The water has begun to clear, the temperatures have stayed seasonally warm and the fish continue to be cooperative most of the time. Another benefit is that much of the time we practically have the water and fish to ourselves. Many people simply don’t realize that this is one of the best times of year to fish in our area. Redfish continue to school up in greater numbers and can be seen roaming the flats during moving water or just sunning themselves at low tide. Speckled Trout are prowling many drop offs, current edges and sunken structure waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting bait.  We have been targeting both species with artificials by Z-Man and DOA lures, though we have boated our fair share on live shrimp and mud minnows when casting artificials is not our best option. Remember to change your tactics often to find out what the fish will respond to best. But most of all get out here and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year! If you or your favorite angler can’t make it out right away, how about purchasing a gift certificate for the holidays? I would love to see you on board!
