Charleston and Folly Beach waters have come alive as a variety of fish have arrived within anglers reach. Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel are eager to chase artificial plugs like ‘Gotcha” lures and diamond Jigs. They are being found all over our local waters and are easy and fun to catch. Redfish and Speckled Trout and Flounder continue to provide exciting action on Lures made by DOA and Z-Man just to name a few I keep in my tackle box. If live bait is more your style shrimp and mud minnows are a reliable choice under popping corks, on bottom rigs and on jig heads. Those baits will catch just about everything inshore this time of year. If you are heading to the Jetty or grillage don’t forget to load up on Fiddlers, Blue crabs and Mullet. These baits are essential for Sheepshead, Bull Reds and Sharks. If you are looking for the bait of choice for guides this time of year, grab a cast net and start looking for Menhaden. They are being netted in front of Morris Island and all you need to do is look for the silver flash as they flip out of the water. Your local tackle shop will help you find all the right tackle and cast nets for your particular situation. If you prefer to have a guided trip give me a call at 843-696-4231 or send an email through my website and we can set that up. See you on the water!
