Charter fishing in Charleston during October usually means we will be targeting big Redfish close to the beach for at least part of each trip. Big schools of these bruisers will travel around the jetties and structure right off the beach in search of Mullet, Menhaden and Shrimp. When we find them the action is often non stop and with many of these fish topping 25 lbs get yourself ready for a battle! Deep Sea fishing charters are targeting nearshore reefs, sunken ships and rock piles to find Sheepshead, Black Drum, Flounder and Bull Redfish. We also see large schools of Bonito this time of year as they explode into surface feeding mode with aggressive strikes and drag peeling runs. You will also find sharks, Black Sea Bass and too many other species to mention. Inshore fishing charters in Charleston is also good with Speckled Trout, Redfish and Flounder hugging the grasslines and oyster beds in shallow water searching for minnows, crabs and shrimp.
With schools of baitfish and shrimp filling the flats and creeks hungry game fish are not far behind. Over the past few trips it was not unusual to find fish so tightly grouped up we had a fish hooked up every couple of casts. I expect the fishing to be good through the end of the year as fish feed heavily to prepare for our short and mild winter. Come on out and go fishing with us. These happy folks in the pictures below did!
